Silence is often perceived as a sign of disinterest, non-participation, and weakness. I feel silence is a virtue. It helps you think and imagine. Noise and chaos are detrimental to creativity.
I have learned to be more silent. I don’t enjoy discussing world peace and career plans with strangers we meet at public events and family functions. It’s useless. The moment we walk out of that room, no one remembers. No one cares. Unless there’s any mutually beneficial information that we exchange through that conversation. Else it’s a sheer waste of energy.
I don’t like noisy team lunches either. Where people sitting at one corner of the table literally shout; to participate in discussions originating at the far end of the table. Just to get noticed.
I enjoy interacting with people who share a same passion and zeal for things. An uncontrollable urge for something that triggers a riot in your brain. I remember how my subconscious mind would create virtual to-do lists while I would blankly stare at my office computer. Those 3-4 hours of “Me” time at night were moments I would eagerly wait for, all through the day. This was when Words Kraft was just getting started. I had so many dreams, so many plans, so many action items, so much to do. Does it sound too clichéd? Believe me, watching your dreams transform into reality is the best feeling ever.
Most people I see around do things because of habit, routine or sheer compulsion. And they seem to be doing perfectly fine. Most of their efforts are weighed against financial remuneration. As long as they are getting paid well, these people wouldn’t mind writing software codes, making presentations, achieving targets or pleasing the bosses. They aren’t particularly passionate about anything. That’s okay too. I understand. Your priorities change when you grow up. When you have a family and kids. Financial security and job stability top the charts.
I spoke very less. Most people didn’t interest me. My social participation has been skewed. Such an amazing pile load of crap talk with no concrete outcome. Social gossips, finger pointing, backstabbing, this and that. Nothing constructive. Luckily, my wife compensates for my lack of social participation.
The Internet, on the other hand, holds infinite possibilities. You can participate in the right forums. Indulge in great discussions. Exchange amazing ideas with the right people. You can be brutally honest.

Right. I am a private person and I don’t judge people who might prefer a “loud” lifestyle. That’s their choice. However, I am not okay when people judge me for being quiet and introverted. That’s my choice. Not that I am arrogant or nurture some evil motive. I help people, I care for my kid, I love having soulful discussions. Just that, I do see myself partying to loud hip-hop tunes and chit-chatting with random strangers at the Airport.

I’m perfectly content to ride 27 floors in an elevator without speaking a word. In my mind, there’s a circus of thoughts rivaling the likes of P.T. Barum’s Greatest Show on Earth. Not stand-offish, or rude, I just enjoy the mind processing time.

Absolutely. The chaos and hysteria we live in literally rob us of every ounce of creativity. Can the brain possible imagine or dream, with a hundred odd noises all around.
Silence is a virtue. We think better when we’re calm. I think the subconscious mind comes to action in silence:)
